SPAMS in Blogging

What is Spam:

Spam is a kind of message which contains abuse and abrupt data and is sent to the email addresses by the people. Spamming remains economically viable because advertisers have no operating costs beyond the management of their mailing lists, and it is difficult to hold senders accountable for their mass mailings.
But the main thing is that these spams are of no business to the users to whom they are sent and sometimes these are very irritating to them.

Spam in Blogs:

Spam in blogs also called simply blog spam is a form of the post of a blogger who creates no-value-added posts to submit them to other sites.) It is done by automatically posting random comments or promoting commercial services to blogs, guestbooks, or other publicly accessible online discussion boards. Any web application that accepts and displays hyperlinks submitted by visitors may be targetted.
Now there are different types of spams which are used in blogging.
  • Spam Messages
  • Comment spam
  • Pingbacks and Trackbacks
  • Auto-generated Mails, etc

Now in order to get rid of these one can adopt several ways. In wordpress there are different plugins which could be used to avoid these spams.
One of them is Akismet which is now available at Startup to the users of Wordpress.
But I personally used Spam Free Wordpress plugin.
It is easy to handle and is very effective in blocking spams from specific

Pingbacks and trackbacks:

Every person who is in touch with blogging must be familiar with these terms. Pingbacks and trackbacks and not like viruses that effect your system but the main cause which irritates a lot is that they are spams and whenever you check your comments you will see them as to be ready to get your approval.
Now these spams are non of your business and provide you zero advantage regarding your site and your blog.
So why should these spams be allowed on your site.
Easy way to get rid of this (if you are using WORDPRESS) is that at your Dashboard go to Settingsà Discussions and then uncheck the option “Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.) ‘ under Default article settings menu.

In this way you can easily block these pingbacks
The other way is to use the plugin “Auto Close Pings and Trackbacks” in Wordpress. It is easy to use just download it from the the wordpress plugins and then Activate plugin, publish or edit/update one post. All posts and pages will now have pingbacks and trackbacks disabled. Deactivate plugin. Only needs to be run once.
So by these above ways you can protect your blogs from these spasm.
There might be several other ways and techniques which could be adopted to remove and block spam so if you have some ideas then do share with me

Thanks!
